Oreana Homes is a Victorian based domestic builder who specializes in the design, construction, and delivery of a wide range of medium density town living projects for our partners and associates, along with a vast array of individual new home builds throughout Melbourne’s inner city and growth corridors for the broader consumer market.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Drafting Manager, the Senior Draftsperson Medium Density Division’s role will be to manage the end-to-end drafting process, commencing from town planning approval through to build permit issue, they will have the ability to interpret architectural and engineering working drawings and specifications.

The Senior Draftsperson Medium Density Division will ensure time management, communication across all applicable parties is adopted, documentation management, quality control and accuracy are implemented and maintained to a high level.

The role is also responsible for ensuring all projects are designed to meet Australian Standards and Res-Code requirements,

The Senior Draftsperson Medium Density Division will be required to communicate effectively and professionally with fellow team leaders, consultants, partners, and clientele to ensure a successful outcome for each project is achieved. The Senior Draftsperson Medium Density Division must be able to demonstrate initiative, problem solving, self-motivation as well as significant time management, organizational and leadership skills.

Project Delivery

  • Ensure effective communication and project standards coordination with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Project work, modelling detailing, preparation of project documentation suitable for relevant stakeholder requirements, i.e., Engineers, Building Surveyors & Estimating.
  • Manage and distribute coordinated digital documents.
  • Communicate with external stakeholders, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure designs and finished work comply with specifications, building codes/regulations and contract requirements are met. 
  • Maintaining company drafting standards on all drawings.
  • Managing multiple projects at the one time.
  • Co-ordinating the engagement, documentation and briefing of various consultants such as surveyors, builders & Design resources.
  • Manage project document filing and naming conventions in line with company requirements.

Customer Service

  • Ensure that customers are treated with respect and their queries or concerns are addressed with a sense of urgency and professionalism.
  • Develop strong working relationships with our partners and clientele to greater influence your control over the projects.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with key project contacts. E.g., Building Surveyor, Councils, Consultants.

Safe Working Practice

  • Carrying out work in a safe working manner and maintain a safe working environment at all times.
  • Report any workplace hazards or practices promptly for corrective action or improvement.
  • Immediately report instances of injury or “near” injury to management.
  • Comply with company and legislative reporting on workplace injury.
  • Ensure the construction team and OH&S coordinator is supported with all OHS&E safety documentation required to undertake construction works.

  • The level of respect, professionalism and the approach adopted when liaising with fellow team members, consultants, and clientele.
  • Stakeholder satisfaction is monitored based on the respectfulness and positivity of interaction, the timeliness/urgency of responsiveness to queries and the quality of the response.
  • Time management and a high level of communication when liaising with members of the design team, project / development managers, civil, estimating and construction teams.
  • Accuracy and a high attention to detail when reviewing, preparing, emails, documentation and or communication.
  • Processes and procedures are followed and implemented.
  • Effective prioritisation of workload to ensure tasks are completed by the due date.
  • Demonstrate the ability to problem solve when challenging situations arise.
  • High level of accuracy in managing all registers and reports, ensuring all information is correct and generated on time.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail with electronic file management.
  • Zero tolerance approach with safety to be filtered through the team.

Minimum Requirements for the Role

  • Completion of a degree or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Medium Density development environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and organise, showing initiative excellent time management skills and strong attention to detail with limited supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to draft formal correspondence, as well as build and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Strong degree of problem-solving skills in addition to the provision of sound judgement when decision making is required.
  • Excellent computer skills and competency in a range of software packages including ArchiCAD, Microsoft Office suite, Share point and various reporting systems.
  • Res Codes, Building Codes and Standards knowledge.
  • Building construction knowledge.
